I have a client that I've been seeing for about 3 years for Fibromyalgia and related issues. Recently, she went through a big change which resulted in extremely high stress. She was due to schedule an appointment with me and she left me a message saying that she was suffering from TMJ disorder and she had to make some appointments with the dentist and endodontist, accupuncturist, etc. I called her back and said you should come in for Trigger Point Therapy. I know you think of me as someone that only helps you with Fibromyalgia and I'm sure it didn't occur to you that the jaw issues you are having could be helped with Trigger Point therapy, but before you go and spend a small fortune on other treatments, why not give me a try and see if it helps.
She did and because the pain was accute, it only took ONE SESSION to reduce the pain! This is unusual, but I believe it worked so quickly because she had only experienced symptoms for a couple of weeks. She described the pain as a 'knife in my ear' and after the first session, she said that all went away and most of the tension she felt as a result of the TMJ had dissipated. One thing to note on her case, she went to her dentist and he did not find any issues with her mouth, her bit was fine, there were no infections in any of her teeth. This is not typical of most people with TMJ disorder, but her stress brought on such tremendous muscle spasms in her jaw that she was in considerable pain regardless of the excellent condition of her jaw and teeth.
